The first week of the NFL season is officially over, and it was excellent in almost every way. It’s extremely difficult to properly evaluate something after one week of action, but that doesn’t mean we won’t try.

As we do every week here at BTB, we compile our own weekly rankings and see where the Dallas Cowboys are ranked across the web.

Here you can see last week’s rankings.

Let’s go.

1 – Kansas City Chiefs (LW: 1)

It’s very hard to imagine a world where they don’t win everything.

2 – San Francisco 49ers (LW: 2)

They are such a machine. An unavoidable one.

3 – Detroit Lions (LW: 4)

Dan Campbell commented after the game that a win is a win. He’s right. Good for them.

4 – Houston Texans (LW: 5)

Despite Anthony Richardson throwing a million yards on what seemed like two throws, they won. Adding Stefon Diggs turned out to be a good idea. Who would have thought!

5 – Dallas Cowboys (LW: 7)

They dominated the NFL’s best defense last year and were able to take it easy for much of the second half.

6 – Buffalo Bills (LG: 8)

Sometimes they fly a little too close to the sun, but when they want to turn on the sun, Josh Allen is great.

7 – Baltimore Ravens (LW: 3)

There were a handful of mistakes that could have been the result of week 1 and such. We’ll see them soon enough.

8 – Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 10)

The fact that they were able to win while Jalen Hurts had such a possession-prone night is very unfortunate.

9 – Miami Dolphins (LW: 12)

It’s amazing how you can house someone almost at will on Tyreek Hill.

10 – New Orleans Saints (LW: 20)

They currently rank second in the NFL in EPA/play on offense.

Remember that as The Cowboys will face each other on Sunday.

11 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LG: 17)

They are number one! What!

12 – Los Angeles Rams (LW: 11)

The conversation with Matthew Stafford is sometimes annoying, but boy is he good.

13 – Seattle Seahawks (LW: 19)

Maybe we should take them a little seriously.

14 – Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 18)

The Chargers didn’t ask much of Justin Herbert and won easily. The Jim Harbaugh special.

15 – Minnesota Vikings (LW: 27)

I’m not convinced Sam Darnold can just do this, but this was step one.

16 – Chicago Bears (LW: 22)

As mentioned in Detroit, a win is a win, but we’re all ready to see the Caleb Williams experience truly blossom.

17 – Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 29)

It’s truly astonishing that the two teams that won Week 1 without scoring a touchdown were the Bears and the team with Justin Fields at quarterback.

18 – New England Patriots (LW: 31)

This was the biggest surprise of the week for me. Beating the Bengals in Cincinnati is super impressive. Well done by Jerod Mayo. Julian Edelman agreed when I spoke to him this week.

19 – Green Bay Packers (LW: 9)

It will obviously be a challenge to operate without Jordan Love. We will see how they fare.

20 – Cincinnati Bengals (LG: 6)

It feels like they’re not getting enough competition. They lost. At home. To a Patriots team we didn’t expect much from. What’s going on?

21 – Indianapolis Colts (LW: 21)

I’m signing up for all of Anthony Richardson’s big throws.

22 – Arizona Cardinals (LW: 26)

I had a higher rating for the Cardinals than most this season, despite last week’s rankings. But they’re going to have to win those close games if they want to do anything special.

23 – New York Jets (LG: 13)

The Jets are still bad? Who could have predicted that.

24 – Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 14)

Another team flying under the radar to lose. Doug Pederson and Trevor Lawrence need to be better.

25 – Washington Commanders (LW: 23)

I hope you have some Jayden Daniels stock in fantasy. He’s so much fun to watch.

26 – Denver Broncos (LW: 24)

Speaking of accountability, will this be the year Sean Payton is taken to court?

27 – Atlanta Falcons (LW: 16)

This was a disaster. An abject failure.

28 – Tennessee Titans (LW: 25)

Will Levis certainly has qualities that appeal to him, but you can’t just throw the game away like he did.

29 – Las Vegas Raiders (LW: 28)

They are quite boring and annoying. It’s a shame.

30 – Cleveland Browns (LW: 15)

Ouch, with a capital Y. What a bad offense and quarterback.

31 – New York Giants (LW: 30)

Also a bad quarterback.

32 – Carolina Panthers (LW: 32)

A bad, uh, everything.

I don’t know if you could have built a much better game plan for the Cowboys than what happened in Cleveland, all things considered. CeeDee Lamb needed only a handful of practices to make his impact felt against some of the better cornerbacks in the NFL. Dak Prescott earned a new mega-contract before the game and had a strong first half before the Cowboys went on a clock-killing scheme. Dallas’ defense pressured Deshaun Watson for four quarters in the return of DC Mike Zimmer and held off the Browns six three-and-outs, an interception and a field goal in their first eight possessions. Even the special teams came in handy, as Brandon Aubrey was 4-for-4 on field goals, including 50 and 57 yards, and my man KaVontae Turpin had a 60-yard punt-return TD to turn out the lights in the first game of the Huntington Bank Field era. Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones (with the CeeDee and Dak deals done) have to feel a lot better about the whole operation now.

ESPN: 7 (LG: 11)

Another step up.

Ranking for the season: 11

Best Newcomer Performance: LB DeMarvion Overshown

There were a lot of choices coming off Dallas’ big win, but Overshown gets the nod. He sat out his rookie season with a torn ACL in his left knee, but was all over the field against the Browns. He finished with nine tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits. His quickness in the closing game was eye-opening on his sack of Browns QB Deshaun Watson, as he beat Micah Parsons to the signal-caller. There may be some growing pains as the year progresses, but he’s off to a great start. —Todd Archer

Note: ESPN did not have concrete power rankings for Week 1, so we went with what they had then for our rankings from a week ago, which had the Cowboys at 6, but they have opted to reflect “last week’s” ranking as their preseason ranking for the team, which is 11, and we have adjusted things to reflect that.

Today in the US: 7 (LG: 18)

Turns at 18 might have just been a bit low I think!

Let’s give them their flowers after dealing with QB Dak Prescott’s last-minute contract. But the real story Sunday was the defense, a unit now led by Mike Zimmer that produced 25 pressures to Cleveland’s 56 dropbacks.

Yeah: 4 (LG: 5)

In the top five.

If we’re panicking about the Cowboys next offseason (and we all will be, it’s an annual tradition), just think about how the last few months have played out. Predictions of doom and gloom, and then the Cowboys went out and crushed a talented Browns team in Week 1. It looked like a team that had won 12 games in each of the last three seasons.

CBS Sport: 6 (LG: 10)

Just outside here.

They signed a big deal with Dak Prescott on Sunday and then went out and beat the Browns. The defense was special that day, which may be a sign of things to come.

The Athletics: 7 (LG: 7)

No change.

Dak Prescott won on Sunday. Not just in the NFL, but on the planet. No one had a better day than the Cowboys quarterback. Just hours before the game, Prescott agreed to a six-year contract that guarantees him $231 million and makes him the first player in league history to earn $60 million in a season. Then he went out and had a very Dak game — efficient but unspectacular, completing 19 of 32 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown. It was enough to beat an already struggling Cleveland team.

Sports Illustrated: 9 (LG: 11)

This is the lowest rating for the Cowboys of the stores we manage.

Well done to the Cowboys, who still find themselves blessed with injured pigeons to stock up on early in the season. Last year it was the Giants, Jets and Patriots in a four-game series. This year it’s the completely knocked-out Deshaun Watson and a couple of reserve tackles for the Browns. That shouldn’t detract from a different but still creative game plan from Mike Zimmer, who made his glorious return to football with six sacks of Deshaun Watson.
