Brian Kelly made headlines for to hit the table with one’s fist during his press conference after LSU lost to USC 27-20 on Sunday night. His frustration was visible as he addressed his team for not focusing on the game in the final phase.

“Well, if you watch last night’s game, they moved the ball, especially in the first half,” Mullen said on ESPN before the game. Open drives, move the ball up and down the field, lose the ball on downs.

“I think they played really well at halftime. You look at the scoreboard and the scoreboard didn’t reflect how they felt they played that game.”

LSU totaled over 400 yards of offense — but gave up 450 more on the defensive side of the ball. The Tigers would go 0-1 for the third time under Brian Kelly after the Trojans scored on a last-second touchdown by USC.

Kelly hadn’t even mentioned the game after the game against USC in Vegas. Here’s what he had to say about it.

“We played a couple guys’ asses off tonight and we’re sitting here again – we’re sitting here talking about the same things,” Kelly said, banging the table. “About not finishing when you’ve got an opponent in a position to put them away. But what we do on the sideline is feel like the game is over.”

“I’m so angry about it that I have to do something about it. I’m not doing a good enough job as a coach. I have to coach them better because it’s unacceptable that we haven’t found a way to win this football game. It’s ridiculous. It’s insane.”

Looking ahead, they will look to bounce back on Saturday at home against Nicholls in Baton Rouge before opening SEC play away to Nicholls. South Carolina the week after on September 14th.
