Dave Roberts’ remarkable bunt in the World Series was panned by fans

Dave Roberts’ decision to have Enrique Hernandez hit a sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning backfired big time.

After a run with Yankees reliever Clay Holmes in trouble, Hernandez, one of the best hitters in the Dodgers lineup, laid down a bunt with runners on first and second base and no one out.

The play went according to plan, putting both runners in scoring position with Will Smith coming to the plate.

But the inning went south from there to Los Angeles.

Smith popped out to the shortstop on the first pitch, leaving it up to Gavin Lux to tie the game or give the Dodgers the lead.

Lux grounded to second base, ending the Dodgers’ threat and leaving the score at 2-1 Yankees.

Baseball fans quickly took to social media to rip Roberts for taking the bat out of Hernandez’s hands.

“Dave Roberts bunting Kiké Hernandez will be one of those moments seen in the Yankees World Series film…” X user Joe Aranda wrote.

“I have to reiterate how stupid that bunt Dave Roberts just called for was,” wrote Andrew Claudio of Knicks Film School on zero against one of your most reliable play-off performers who already had a triple. So so so so stupid.”
