Davis Fire Thursday Updates: Southern Nevada Crews Arrive, Containment, and More | Carson City Nevada News

Good morning readers of Carson Now, here is our update for Thursday morning.

Some residents were allowed to return to their homes within the Washoe Valley evacuation region. Watch the morning update video here.

Crews from Southern Nevada arrived this morning to staff our local stations as our firefighters in the mountains continue to battle the Davis Fire.

Last night’s evening update reported that over 2,200 hectares had burned, that the fire was 37% under control and that 631 people had worked on the fire.

Despite winds grounding all aircraft yesterday, crews were able to keep the fire largely contained within barriers.

Last night all containment lines held.

In terms of road closures, most major roads are open with the exception of Mt. Rose. Local roads within or leading to evacuation zones are closed and are being monitored by law enforcement to ensure homes remain safe and secure. I-580 remains open at this time.

Although a number of buildings in Washoe City were on fire, the fire was largely contained to public lands and outside of neighborhoods.

At last night’s press conference, fire officials said the outlook was positive, with multiple ‘clean-up’ operations underway within the lines.

As of 7:30am the evacuation zones have not changed since yesterday. I know there are some residents who have asked for the evacuation to be lifted but as firefighters said the most important thing is to keep the roads clear so that emergency responders can get to the fire without any problems.

We will continue to post updates here on containment, evacuations and more as more information becomes available.
