DC Harris rally expected to draw more than 50,000 spectators – NBC4 Washington

Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver her closing arguments to voters Tuesday evening, a short walk from the White House.

The D.C. rally on the Ellipse could draw more than 52,000 people, D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith said organizers told her Tuesday morning.

Abundant crowds will be led to the northeast grounds of the Washington Monument.

The Ellipse is where former President Donald Trump held his Stop the Steal rally on January 6, 2021, shortly before members of the public stormed the Capitol.

The number of expected attendees for Harris’ speech increased from 8,000 in the original permit. The original permit was changed, the National Park Service said.

Harris is working to turn the election into a referendum on the Trump era, which she will describe as a decade of division and chaos, a senior Harris campaign official told NBC News.

On Tuesday evening, Trump will deliver remarks in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which his campaign billed as his final message to voters.

Visitors can enter the gate from 3 p.m

Preparations for the Ellipse were in full swing this weekend, with crews getting the fencing, protective flooring and more ready.

Those hoping to attend were told to register on the Harris-Waltz campaign website. Gates open at 3 p.m. and Harris is expected to begin her speech at 7:15 p.m. The event is expected to end around 9 p.m

Harris will focus on addressing voters’ economic concerns and highlight her specific proposals aimed at lowering costs, strengthening the middle class and raising taxes on corporations and the wealthy, a campaign official said .

Less than a week away from Election Day

Harris is statistically deadlocked with Trump, polls show, with just over a week to go until Election Day. The Vice President; her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and high-profile surrogates from Michelle Obama to Liz Cheney and Beyoncé are calling on voters to vote for the Democrat.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. All DC police precincts will be fully staffed and all officers will work 12-hour shifts beginning November 4, with a focus on ballot boxes and polling places.
