‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ star Dafne Keen was not bothered by her role being revealed in trailers

“Deadpool & Wolverine” had many surprise appearances. But one that was definitely no surprise – at least in the theater – was that of Dafne Keen, who returned as X-23, aka Laura. Her role was given away in one of the trailers for the film. And while that might bother some fans, it didn’t bother her.

“Honestly, I trust Ryan (Reynolds) and Shawn (Levy)’s creative judgment so much that if they thought it was necessary, they were right,” she explained to TheWrap. “To me, everything they say is Biblical. So I’m glad they did what they did
did.”

Director Shawn Levy even warned her in advance that this would happen. According to Keen, the warnings came in “the series of most terrifying messages” ever, to the point that she convinced herself he was actually calling to deliver bad news.

“Shawn was in Brazil doing press with Hugh and Ryan, and he sent me a text saying, ‘Call me.’ End of text,” she recalled. “And then I called him, but he didn’t answer, and then he texted me again: ‘Call me.’ Not recorded. Text me again, not to retrieve. ‘Call me!’ Doesn’t answer. So I’m going crazy. I’m like, ‘Oh, I got cut from the movie. That’s it. He is about to give me the worst news of my life.”

“It turns out he had really bad signals, so the message just resent, and he didn’t realize it, and he couldn’t receive my calls because he wasn’t on any service,” she continued. “So it was a complete misunderstanding, and he called me and said, ‘I’m putting you in the trailer.’ I just wanted to let you know.’ So I knew, but there was a good twenty minutes of pure fear and panic.

The trailer meant that Keen could finally stop lying about her role in the film, even though she enjoyed telling those lies. It was a secret she had been hiding for over a year, as she discovered around February 2023.

“It was early on during the filming of ‘Star Wars’ (‘The Acolyte’ series),” she recalls. “And I had to sit with it for a while year! Yeah, pretty crazy. Still very cool.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is now streaming on Disney+.
