Delighted fans react to Landman’s premiere episode, declaring Yellowstone’s creator has another hit to his name

Sunday night marked the highly anticipated premiere of the star-studded new drama Landman, and fans loved what they saw.

The new Paramount+ show received positive reviews from X users after the first two episodes debuted on the streaming platform yesterday.

Social media users couldn’t stop comparing Landman and the popular western series Yellowstone.

Both shows were co-created by Taylor Sheridan and he also directed the first two episodes of Landman.

‘I just saw the Landman pilot. Taylor Sheridan may have another stunner on her hands, I fear,” one X user wrote.

Some of Landman’s A-stars include Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Jon Hamm and Demi Moore.

Landman currently has a 71 percent on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

Landman revolves around Tommy Norris (Thornton) – a rough executive of the M-Tex Oil company in Texas.

The series premiere opens with a tied-up Tommy wearing a bag over his head as he discusses a lease with a cartel member.

He survives the intense exchange and continues to work under businessman Monty Miller (Hamm), while balancing relationships with his ex-wife Angela (Larter) and his children Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and oil field worker Cooper (Jacob Lofland).

Social media users have praised Thornton for his portrayal and praised the show for the actor’s performance.

One person noted that Thornton’s character is “more charismatic and warm” than Kevin Costner’s character in Yellowstone.

Another wrote: ‘Did anyone see the new series Landman last night after Yellowstone? I liked it. Billy Bob Thornton is PERFECT for this role.”

Other social media users were intrigued by Landman simply because Sheridan was the show’s co-creator.

‘Since Yellowstone I have been looking forward to the show he makes. Then Tulsa King sold it for me. And now Landman has sold me in 2 episodes. He is definitely their guy,” one X user wrote.

The series premiere takes a dark turn after Cooper’s entire oil rig team is killed in an explosion.

The early deaths left a few X users uninterested in the show, with one person calling it the “dumbest” they had ever seen on a television show.

Others were less impressed with the show, with one X user even calling it a “cheap ripoff of the popular ’80s show Dallas.”

“The ‘Landman’ show is just Yellow Stone with Bad Santa…,” one X user tweeted.

Multiple X users claimed the show was “unrealistic,” citing alleged inaccuracies.

“My father worked in the oil fields of the Permian Basin for over thirty years. I noticed several inaccuracies, I’m sure Dad will notice many more,” one X user wrote.

“Great show, but real people from the oil fields know what’s real and what’s made for TV. The show needs to be more realistic.”

More than one critic mentioned Landman’s connections to Yellowstone.

“Landman has the manly bravado and conservative milieu of Yellowstone, Sheridan’s flagship red-state soap opera, but also builds a compelling, detailed world in the sun-drenched Permian Basin that anchors the show in perceived reality,” wrote a critic for Variety.

A reviewer from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review claimed that it was Sheridan’s “best series yet” and that it was “even more fun” than Yellowstone.

“I’ve enjoyed most of Taylor Sheridan’s series so far, but Landman is the best work he’s done since the first season of Yellowstone,” wrote a critic from JoBlo’s Movie Network.

Still, some argue that the series leaves a lot to be desired.

“Landman runs at the pace of an oil derrick, slowly trudging from one branching storyline to the next,” wrote a RogerEbert.com reviewer.

“None of the men in ‘Landman’ are saints. They are broken, sexist, sloppy, selfish, greedy, patronizing, ignorant and more,” wrote a critic for Entertainment Weekly.

‘But Tommy and his male colleagues are three-dimensional disasters; women, on the other hand, are completely defined by their gender.”
