Delusional Jets Superfan Believes Team Is ‘Phasing Out’ Chant

‘JETS, Jets! Jets! Jets!”

Ed Anzalone, better known as “Fireman Ed,” has been leading the chant at MetLife Stadium for nearly two decades. And for some reason he believes he is now being removed from the game day tradition.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but they are phasing us out,” Anzalone said in a video on his Instagram on Tuesday. “I’d like to know if anyone knows anything, please let me know because it’s clear it’s happening and it needs to stop because we need home advantage.”

The Jets undoubtedly need some juice at home games. But is that really all this offers?

Anzalone will typically create noise when New York takes the field before defensive possessions, and the stadium crew will typically show him and a group of fans on the video board to assist. The Jets apparently stopped lending a helping hand against the Denver Broncos in Week 4, and the trend has continued as of late.

“Especially last night — although also during the Denver game — especially last night we scored a touchdown and normally traditionally we’re always on the screen,” Anzalone said. “(We) do the Jet chant to get the crowd going, which is an important part of JetLife Stadium.”

Anzalone famously quit the team in 2012, leaving the awkward game — a loss to the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving — before halftime and declaring he would no longer lead the cheers at games before eventually returning in 2015. The Jets return maybe return the favor.
