The Democratic Party’s official 2024 platform was launched today on day one of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) without any mention of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency. The move is in line with the past four years of hostility toward the industry from the Biden-Harris administration.

Despite the growing importance of Bitcoin and digital assets, neither Kamala Harris nor Tim Walz, who are running for president and vice president in the upcoming November elections, have prioritized including Bitcoin and crypto in the party’s agenda.

In contrast, the Republican Party has embraced Bitcoin and made it a central part of their platform. They have promised to end what they call the Democrats’ “illegitimate and un-American crypto repression” and oppose the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Additionally, the GOP vows to protect the right to mine Bitcoin, ensure that Americans can control their digital assets themselves, and preserve financial privacy from government surveillance.

The 2024 Republican Platform

The differing approaches between the parties were further highlighted when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville, emphasizing his support for the industry. Meanwhile, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris declined to speak or participate in the event.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent presidential candidate, also spoke at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, expressing his support for Bitcoin, underscoring the growing political divide on the issue.

As the 2024 election approaches, the absence of Bitcoin and crypto from the Democratic platform could impact the votes of an estimated 50 million Bitcoin and crypto owners across the country, who are looking for the best candidate to advocate for their cause.

Update: Fox Business’ Eleanor Terrett reports that this party platform had already been approved before Joe Biden withdrew from the race. DNC delegates will vote on the platform tonight, “but it is expected to pass as written.”
