Derek Hough is still trying to figure out this cast member’s routine.

Because when it comes to scammers Anna Delvey‘s casting on Dancing with the starsit takes more than one performance to reveal her layers.

“She feeds the curiosity because she’s still a mystery,” Derek said E! News in an exclusive interview following the season 33 premiere episode. “If I’m being honest with you, even after last night I was like, ‘I don’t fully understand you yet, but I want to know more.'” (For more with Derek, tune in to E! And indeed, it seemed the live studio audience was searching for answers in the same way after Anna and her partner Ezra Sosa‘s first performance was received noticeably less enthusiastically.

But for Derek, the dance competition wouldn’t be what it is without the diversity of stars.

“That’s what I love about the show, is that it gives you a little bit of everything,” he continued. “It gives you that curiosity. There’s something for everyone in the show. So there might be someone who wants that.”

As he joked, “True crime is very popular right now.”
