Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks: Live Score Updates, Highlights, Analysis

The Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks face off on “Monday Night Football” for a key matchup in the NFC. Both teams have won three games (Lions 2-1, Seahawks 3-0), but they got there in very different ways.

Oddly enough, the Seahawks have only played AFC opponents so far, beating the Broncos, Patriots and Dolphins. Of those teams, only the Broncos have two wins, while the Patriots and Dolphins look lifeless at the moment.

On the other hand, the Lions have only played NFC opponents. Their two wins were against teams with current losing records (Rams: 1-3, Cardinals: 1-3), and their only loss was against a 3-1 Buccaneers team.

It’s safe to say that both teams are still trying to figure out how to measure up to the best of the best, and Monday night will be a tough litmus test for both teams.

It’s going to be a big night in Detroit, as not only is this a Monday night primetime game at Ford Field – one of the loudest stadiums in football right now – but Detroit will also be debuting their black uniforms and they will have the honor prove Calvin Johnson during halftime.

This post provides live updates from Ford Field as the game progresses. Basically, once the games start, we’ll provide drive-by-drive analysis, highlights, score updates and the latest injury news all in one post. Just stay here and refresh the page as the game progresses.

See you at kick-off.

First quarter

The Lions won the coin toss and elected to receive, a change in strategy from their normal method of deferring. The strategy didn’t work as the Lions quickly went three-and-out. Jared Goff was sacked on third-and-6 after failing to find anyone open.

The Seahawks didn’t fare much better on offense. While opening with a 20-yard strike from Geno Smith to DK Metcalf, Seattle failed to get another first down and punted back to Detroit, pinning the Lions on their own 7-yard line.

The Lions offense started to get its mojo back on the ensuing drive. Starting with an 11-yard run to David Montgomery, Detroit was quickly out of its own end zone. Then Goff found Jameson Williams for 10 and Amon-Ra St. Brown for 17 to move into Seahawks territory. Two more rushes from Montgomery yielded 20 yards and Detroit was in the red zone. Then Jahmyr Gibbs split the defense for 19 yards to the Seahawks’ 4-yard line. Three plays later, Montgomery plowed in early from 1 yard out 7-0 Lions pipe.

The Seahawks drove into Lions territory, but Jack Campbell put an end to it. As Metcalf fought for additional yards, Campbell shot Metcalf, causing the ball to become loose, and Carlton Davis returned the fumble all the way to the Seahawks’ 14-yard line.

A pass to Brock Wright put the Lions on first from the 3-yard line as the game moved into the second quarter.

Second quarter

On the first play of the next quarter, Gibbs was untouched for the touchdown and a Lions 14-0 lead.

The Seahawks would answer, though. Aided by a questionable holding call on Davis when Detroit had a third down stop, the Seahawks would strike with a 29-yard pass to Metcalf down to the 1-yard line. Kenneth Walker managed to make it 14-7 Lions.
