Diddy covered up abuse and sex trafficking, including at Star Island mansion, lawsuit alleges

For decades, hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs boasted about building a multimillion-dollar company, but federal prosecutors say he ran it as a “criminal enterprise” that engaged in and provided a front for human trafficking, forced labor and bribery, including at his Star Island mansion, according to a newly filed indictment.

The indictment, made public Tuesday, accuses Diddy, 54, of running a “racketeering conspiracy” by “engaging in a persistent and widespread pattern of abuse against women and other persons.”

“As part of this pattern of abuse, Diddy manipulated women into participating in highly orchestrated sexual activities with male commercial sex workers,” the complaint states. “At times, Combs and others acting at his direction would arrange for women and commercial sex workers to fly to Combs’ location.”

According to court documents and federal investigators, much of that activity took place at Diddy’s posh homes in New York, Los Angeles and on Star Island in Miami Beach.

Six months ago, federal agents raided the Star Island home following a lawsuit alleging he was the leader of a criminal organization that could be classified as a “widespread and dangerous criminal sex trafficking organization.”

The controversial music mogul is accused of human trafficking, extortion and transportation for the purpose of prostitution, according to the grand jury indictment.

“Reserve judgment until you have all the facts,” defense attorney Marc Agnifilo said in a statement. “These are the actions of an innocent man who has nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”

‘Freak-offs’, manipulation and threats

The 14-page indictment, filed by federal prosecutors in Manhattan in the Southern District of New York, details how the music executive “abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to satisfy his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct.”

Prosecutors said Diddy manipulated women into having sex with male sex workers by controlling their careers, abusing his financial support and threatening them with violence.

The lawsuit specifically points to disturbing surveillance footage that showed Diddy kicking his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, through the hallway of a Los Angeles hotel in March 2016.

The rap mogul used his business ventures to enrich people loyal to him and used them to cover up his crimes, the indictment alleges. His staff used Diddy’s power and prestige as a weapon to “intimidate, threaten, and lure female victims into (Diddy’s) employment, often under the pretense of a romantic relationship.”

The recruited women were forced to participate in “freak offs,” sexual performances that Diddy directed and often recorded, the complaint said. Diddy’s employees arranged his access to women and sex workers, often across state lines, and provided controlled substances to keep the women “compliant and obedient.”

According to the indictment, Diddy and his associates even sought out victims and confronted them with recordings of the “freak-offs” in order to silence them.

During the raids on Diddy’s homes on Star Island and in Los Angeles, agents seized “freak off” supplies, including narcotics and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant. They also discovered three AR-15s with crossed-out serial numbers and a drum magazine.

In 2023, after the allegations against Diddy gained traction amid mounting lawsuits, the music executive and his staff attempted to bribe people to remain silent, the suit alleges, even telling them false stories during phone calls.

Prosecutors say in at least two cases, those phone calls were recorded.

A case based on lawsuits?

Diddy’s legal troubles reached a fever pitch in April when music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones sued Diddy, accusing him, his staff and other music executives of knowing about illicit and unwanted sexual advances that allegedly occurred in Miami, New York, California and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The producer, who hired Diddy in August 2022 to help create several songs for his R&B album “The Love Album: Off the Grid,” alleges in the lawsuit that Diddy groped him and forced him to perform sexual acts with sex workers.

Jones also claims he was ordered to recruit sex workers from Booby Trap on the River, a Miami strip club, and bring them back to Diddy’s home on Star Island.

Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Ventura has been the catalyst for a flurry of lawsuits that have followed Diddy in recent months. In her lawsuit, Ventura alleged that Diddy raped her and forced her to have sex with male sex workers during their decade-long relationship.

Diddy settled the lawsuit the day after it was filed.
