Panthers trade Deontay Johnson and 1/6 round pick to the Ravens for 1/5 round pick.

So this is basically just a pick swap and the Ravens get Deonte Johnson, which leaves a hapless Carolina Panthers team going nowhere.

Not me.

Panthers are going to have to hope that, you know, Xavier Leggett and Jalen Coker really hit the mark the rest of the way, or else they’ll be looking for a new starting quarterback next year with no one to throw to.

So that’s a whole other conversation, but this is a little hard not to untangle here from a fantasy perspective in Baltimore.

Sal I wrote about this for the site so people can go and read the piece if they want to, but I’m not sure how to feel about this again, purely out of fantasy, because obviously for real life Ravens get another cheap one here playmaker.

Why not?

You’re already a major violation.

Add another separator.

Certainly.

But what do you think this does to both Deontay Johnson and of course the other guys there in Baltimore?

Yes.

My first thoughts are: I believe this is a small bump, maybe the smallest bump for Deontay Johnson, and that sounds crazy because hey, in real life he goes from the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL to the No. An. ranked offense.

It was as good as it could be, but only lasted eight games in Carolina.

And he said: goodbye.

So I think this honestly isn’t that big of an upgrade in terms of fantasy, because he’s on an offense where he currently passes the ball less than 30 times per game.

Like we know Derek Henry is there, we know this is always some kind of foul. Lamar Jackson has run a low pass volume offense and this is a guy who is making 26 percent of his team’s targets in his career.

The vast majority of that was obviously with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but now there are so many different quarterbacks.

I mean, we’re talking about six or seven different quarterbacks in his career who are still earning elite numbers in terms of targets because he separates from man coverage, he gets open and that’s what quarterbacks love.

So if he commits this offense, I think he will continue to achieve his goals.

But instead of seeing 25 to 28 to 30% of targets as a high number for an offense that throws the ball 35 to 40 times per game, this now transitions to an offense that is likely trending. closer to 2728 pass attempts a game most weeks, which only hurts his overall volume upside, but maybe a few more touchdowns, a few more efficient passes going his way down the stretch.

So I see it’s a wash.

But I do think this hurts guys like Z Flowers because you see weeks where he gets 89, 10 targets in a game.

I have to imagine it.

Now that drops by at least 1 to 2 targets per game and his projections are improving. If he loses goals, he loses fantasy points and potential.

So that definitely hurts him.

So that’s where my head immediately goes.

Rasha Bateman comes off the field more, so that clearly hurts him.

I think there’s a slight uptick for Deonte Johnson based on the offensive environment and the rest of the guys here, I have to say they’re taking a hit.
