Disney World closes some attractions due to Hurricane Helene

As Hurricane Helene ravages Florida, Disney World has decided to preemptively close a number of attractions for the safety of its guests.

The storm is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend area on Thursday as a devastating Category 4 storm with winds up to 130 mph (209 km/h).

While airlines are warning travelers of flight delays or changes to destinations along their planned route or in the affected region, other businesses, such as theme parks, have also announced adjusted hours and operations.

“Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal circumstances; however, some experiences will be canceled or unavailable on September 26,” the company announced in a statement. “We are closely monitoring the path of the storm as we continue to prioritize the safety of our guests and Cast Members.”

To help prepare guests for the weather phenomenon, Disney World has updated its website with weather alerts and shared the list below with details about changes across the parks and resort.

Below is a snapshot of the storm’s impact so far.

Walt Disney World Water Parks

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will be temporarily closed on Thursday, September 26.

Beachcomber Shack (cabanas) and Typhoon Lagoon umbrella rentals have been cancelled for Thursday, September 26th.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Outdoor entertainment has been cancelled due to forecasted weather conditions on Thursday, September 26. Guests who purchased tickets will be refunded.

Mini golf

Miniature golf courses at Walt Disney World Resort are temporarily closed on Thursdays. This includes: Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf; Winter Summerland Miniature Golf.

Pools at Disney Resort Hotels

The pool area at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club, near the Epcot theme park at the Disney World Resort in Florida.

At the time of publication, Disney Resort pools remain open and closed under normal circumstances.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The Enchanting Extras Collection experiences have also been cancelled due to the storm, including: Savor the Savanna, Up Close with Rhinos, Walking with Giants and Wild Africa Trek.
