It’s a new era of college football. Conferences like the Big Ten and SEC have made major additions, the College Football Playoff has expanded to twelve teams, the transfer portal is dominant and NIL (name, image, likeness) matters a lot.

The NIL element leads us to this edition of SB Nation Reacts. Michigan is targeting five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 player in the class of 2025. Underwood is committed to LSU, but since Underwood plays high school football right near the University of Michigan in the city of Belleville, why wouldn’t the Wolverines be under a lot of pressure to reach the pinnacle of high school?

Michigan has reportedly offered Underwood an extensive NIL package, with multiple reports claiming it has raked in approximately $10 million over the course of several seasons. Underwood would later share a post on social media with an image that read, “#1 QB likely to reject Michigan’s $10.5 million NIL offer.” Underwood later deleted the post.

Head coach Sherrone Moore said Monday that he wants the Michigan experience to be transformational and not just transactional, but if these reports are at all true about Michigan offering Underwood a large sum of money, then they’re aiming for transformational and transactional.
