Dodgers star has dislocated shoulder

play

LOS ANGELES – A raucous Saturday night at Dodger Stadium took on an ominous tone after superstar Shohei Ohtani injured his shoulder sliding into second base on a failed steal attempt in the eighth inning.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game that Ohtani suffered a partial dislocation of his left shoulder during the game and would continue testing Sunday.

“We’re encouraged,” Roberts said after the Dodgers’ 4-2 victory in Game 2 of the World Series.

Ohtani lay on the ground for a few moments and went outside with a trainer holding his arm, dragging it on the ground behind him as he slid to avoid New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe’s tag.

The Dodgers have a 2-0 lead in the series as the World Series heads to New York for Game 3 on Monday.

Asked about the possibility of Ohtani missing the remainder of the series, Roberts said he hasn’t gotten that far yet but “expects (Ohtani) to be there.”

Ohtani, the two-way superstar and the only man in Major League history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases, has been limited to hitting duties this season and has avoided injuries. He had walked with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but was thrown out by Yankees catcher Austin Wells.
