The Dodgers conclude their penultimate road trip of the 2024 season with a trip to Miami, where they’ll face one of two teams that used more pitchers than they did this season.

When Miguel Rojas took the mound in Atlanta on Saturday, the Dodgers had used 38 different pitchers this season, one shy of the club record set in 2021 and tied in 2023. But the Marlins have used 44 different pitchers this year, two more than any team in major league history.

The Marlins have the second-worst record in MLB this season, at 55-95, en route to the fourth 100-loss season in franchise history. But Miami’s ineptitude has flown under the radar, while the White Sox are on pace to break the modern-day record of 120 losses set by the Mets in 1962.

Miami is just 28-47 at Depot Park this season, last winning a home series in July, and has lost 14 of its last 20 games in Miami.

The Dodgers swept the Marlins May 6-8 at Dodger Stadium, a series that was started on the mound by Walker Buehler, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Gavin Stone. None of the three will start in the series, though Stone will pitch for one of the games to test his shoulder while he is on the injured list with inflammation.

Bobby Miller will start the opener in Miami on Tuesday night after allowing 13 runs in his last two starts. “It’s tough. I’m struggling right now, to say the least,” Miller said after starting last Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Landon Knack and Jack Flaherty will start the final two games against the Marlins, attempting to rebound from two- and three-inning starts, respectively, in Atlanta. They are just the seventh and eighth Dodgers pitchers to start on four days’ rest this season.

Longtime friend Michael Petersen is in the Marlins’ bullpen after being claimed off waivers from the Dodgers last Tuesday. When Petersen pitched on Friday, he was the 70th different player the Marlins used this season, breaking the 2021 major league Cubs’ record for most players used in a single season.
