Dodgers vs. Mets score, live updates: Los Angeles looks to advance to World Series, shuts down New York in NLCS Game 5

The New York Mets are officially in business after another dominant performance by the Los Angeles Dodgers in their 10-2 Game 4 victory on Thursday night. With the Dodgers holding a 3-1 series lead, about to advance to their fourth World Series in the last eight seasons, the Mets could be down to their last 27 outs if they can’t muster the kind of offensive performance that won. them Game 2 7-3. In the series, Los Angeles defeated New York 30-9.

The Dodgers are sending Jack Flaherty to the mound, and the righty will look to continue his postseason success (1-1, 2.92 ERA, 8 SO, 12.1 IP) in a crucial Game 5. Meanwhile, the Mets will pin their hopes on the left David. Peterson, who was solid for New York in brief appearances in October (1-0, 2.08 ERA, 5 SO, 8.2 IP).

  • Mets 3, Dodgers 0

That’s a good start! Pete Alonso gets his first RBI of the series with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. After failing to score a run against Jack Flaherty in Game 1, the Mets are on the board and then several more after four batters.

  • Citi Field was ready to go berserk when Mark Vientos hit a deep ball, but it landed just outside the warning track. One out for Flaherty, now comes Pete Alonso.

  • Like David Peterson, Jack Flaherty is in trouble in the first part. He walked Brandon Nimmo to give the Mets two without an out.

  • And now both MVP candidates have leadoff hits. Francisco Lindor welcomed Jack Flaherty with a 105mph single to right.

  • That opportunity quickly passed. David Peterson got a quick grounder from Teoscar Hernandez and lineout from Freddie Freeman, then struck out Tommy Edman to keep the first inning scoreless.

  • And then Mookie Betts hits a catchable ball to right field, but Starling Marte bobbles it as he slides toward the catch. The Dodgers suddenly have runners on second and third base with no outs to start the game.

  • Shohei Ohtani broke his 0-for-22 bases-empty streak yesterday with a leadoff homer and today he gets another hit, this time a single past a diving Jeff McNeil. McNeil starts at second today, marking the first time he has played defense in more than a month.

  • David Peterson throws a first-pitch slider to Shohei Ohtani and we’re off to Citi Field.

  • Francisco Lindor gets the live version of his walk-up music. Jose Iglesias should try it too.

  • Matt Harvey warms up for the first pitch

Former Mets pitcher Matt Harvey throws out the ceremonial first pitch for Game 5:

In the postseason (during the Mets’ run to the World Series in 2015), Harvey compiled a 2-0 record and a 3.04 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings.
