People around the league see the Dodgers as a possible favorite for country star free-agent shortstop Willy Adames. Dodgers bigwigs Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes had him in Tampa Bay.

Adames has been a frequent trade target of the Dodgers, Braves and Giants, and Atlanta could use him now too, but with a price tag of over $200 million he might be pricey for them (they let their own old SS Dansby Swanson go for $177 million to the Cubs).

Adames could also play third base, so he could also fit in with the Blue Jays, among others.

Mets baseball president David Stearns acquired Adames for Milwaukee. Could they use him at third base and move Mark Vientos to first base if Pete Alonso leaves?

Tommy Edman plays capably at shortstop for the Dodgers, but one scout said he’s “really a center fielder.” Edman is also one of three impactful deadline pickups for LA, which also brought in talented reliever Michael Kopech plus Game 1 NLCS starter Jack Flaherty.

This is Dave Roberts’ best work. They have a true All-Star rotation (Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, Gavin Stone, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Emmet Sheehan and River Ryan) and someone who wasn’t pitching at his level (Bobby Miller). Yet Roberts and Co. it together with the help of three starters who are all also dealing with soreness: Flaherty (back), Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) and Walker Buehler (Tommy John).

Roberts has averaged 102 wins, the best in history, he is 6-2 in winner-take-all games and he won a World Series (yes, 2020 counts). He deserves a long delay so that his name is not mentioned among the candidates on the list.
