Tottenham’s new striker Dominic Solanke will miss Saturday’s visit to Everton with an ankle injury, but Ange Postecoglou insists it is not a serious problem.

Solanke made his debut for Spurs in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester after completing a £65million move from Bournemouth earlier this month.

However, Solanke will miss the Everton match after knocking his ankle and could be an early question for the trip to Newcastle on September 1.

“Yes, Dom got a knock in the last game. He got through the game but the next day it flared up again. He will miss tomorrow,” Postecoglou revealed.

“It’s an ankle injury. He got it really early, someone hit his ankle. He’ll be out tomorrow for sure.

“It just depends on the recovery. Next week we obviously have the international break, but it’s not serious, we know that, just an ankle injury.”

Richarlison would have been an obvious candidate to replace Solanke, but did not play a single minute in pre-season due to a calf injury, ending his 2023-24 season prematurely.

Postecoglou could also play Son Heung-min or Dejan Kulusevski centrally, after the latter was deployed in that role in the summer.

Another dilemma for the Australian coach is who will play in the sixth position with Rodrigo Bentancur sidelined by concussion following a serious head injury at Leicester.

“Regardless of the concussion protocols, we will always be more conservative with any head injury,” Postecoglou explains.

“The good thing is that he has recovered very well. He has done all the tests and he feels good. We will take our time with Rodrigo and make sure that he is absolutely 100 percent before we send him out again.”

Yves Bissouma would normally be the logical choice to come on as a substitute with Bentancur out, but he still has work to do after his nitrous oxide offence and it could open the door for Archie Gray to make a full debut on Saturday.

Postecoglou added: “Biss is available for selection, bridge construction continues.

“We have some options there. I think the whole idea of ​​strengthening the squad this off-season was about these kinds of scenarios.

“Too bad for Rodrigo, because he played a good game on Monday. Biss is available, but we still have some midfield options.”

Gray has played in a variety of positions since joining from Leeds in July and Postecoglou was reluctant to suggest his long-term role would be number six.

“Everywhere we have put him so far he has seemed very comfortable and it is a compliment to him that he has adapted to Premier League football,” added Postecoglou.

“Yeah, we’ll see with Archie. Like I said, he’s obviously a very smart young man when it comes to receiving information.

“We’re in a 50+ season, so I’m sure he’ll play a lot. He can play multiple positions and where he ends up? I think he’ll be the master of his own destiny in that regard.”

Pedro Porro is fit after an injury at Leicester on Monday and new signing Wilson Odobert could also play, having joined from Burnley last Friday for a transfer fee that could rise to £30m.
