Donald Trump has unveiled an aggressive plan to reshape American education, aiming to counter what he describes as skyrocketing tuition costs and left-wing indoctrination at universities. Central to his vision is a reform of the accreditation system, which he believes has allowed ‘Marxist’ influence to dominate campuses. By firing current accreditors and enforcing new standards that emphasize American values, freedom of expression and career readiness, Trump proposes to hold institutions accountable, reduce administrative costs and introduce accelerated, affordable degree options. His plan also includes penalties for schools that engage in discriminatory practices, including possible taxes on donations to fund restitution for those affected.

  1. Overhaul of the accreditation system: Trump plans to fire ‘radical left’ accreditors, accusing them of enabling the indoctrination of America’s youth and failing to hold institutions accountable, with a promise to replace them with accreditors that target on traditional American values.
  2. Promoting American Tradition and Western Civilization: New accreditation standards will include a focus on defending “the American tradition and Western civilization,” with the goal of ensuring students are educated in patriotic principles rather than what he describes as “Marxist” ideologies.
  3. Protection of free speech: Trump proposes that institutions strengthen free speech rights, position them as a core standard for accreditation and combat what he sees as censorship within academic institutions.
  4. Elimination of ‘wasteful’ administrative positions: He takes aim at the bureaucratic roles in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), labeling them “Marxist” and attributing their presence to rising education costs, promising to eliminate these positions to reduce costs.
  5. Accelerated, low-cost degree options: Trump advocates for educational pathways that offer accelerated and affordable degrees, with the aim of making college more financially accessible to students.
  6. Entrance and final accountability exams: To ensure educational value, he proposes mandatory university entrance and exit examinations, with the aim of proving that students are truly learning and receiving quality education.
  7. Justice Department action against “racial discrimination”: He plans to direct the Justice Department to take action against colleges that engage in what he describes as racial discrimination, especially when justified under “equality” initiatives .
  8. Taxes and penalties on non-compliant donations: For universities that continue “unlawful discrimination,” Trump proposes taxing donations and possibly imposing fines, threatening stiff financial penalties as a deterrent.
  9. Restitution for victims of discriminatory policiesA portion of the seized endowment funds would be allocated as restitution for individuals affected by what he calls “illegal and unjust policies” aimed at restoring fairness and punishing perceived anti-American practices.
  10. Emphasis on career services and job placement: Trump plans for colleges to improve job placement and career services, emphasizing the need for taxpayer-funded institutions to prepare students for meaningful work and ensure value for education investments.
