Drake loses a staggering amount of money after placing a bet on Mike Tyson to beat Jake Paul

Canadian rapper Drake isn’t afraid to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to placing big bets on sporting events.

Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul faced off on Friday evening. The highly anticipated fight attracted a lot of interest and attracted a large number of bets.

Drake was confident that the 58-year-old Tyson could prevail in the match against the 27-year-old Paul and placed a bet of several hundred thousand dollars on ‘Iron Mike’. But Paul ultimately defeated Tyson by unanimous decision.

In a social media post, Drake showed off his $355,000 bet for Tyson to win, which was placed at odds of +285. Given those odds, the five-time Grammy winner would be in line for a payout of approximately $1 million dollars.

Drake wasn’t the only notable person to lose a significant amount of money following the outcome of the fight. UFC star Conor McGregor said he has invested a total of $1 million in fights scheduled for this weekend.

One of McGregor’s bets was that Tyson would beat Paul. He also placed a bet on Saturday’s UFC 309 event between Jon “Bones” Jones and Stipe Miocic.

After Friday’s fight, Paul was asked about the possibility of a fight between him and McGregor in the future. “Yeah, he’ll never do that though,” Paul said, before his manager Nakisa Bidarian stepped in and said: “First of all, he’s under contract. And second of all, he won’t do that. He knows better.”

The Tyson vs. Paul fight was also plagued with buffering issues. The bandwidth issues raised some concerns about Netflix’s ability to deliver stable streams for NFL games this Christmas.
