The Australian defensive dynamo blocked Kings star De’Aaron Fox’s potential game-winning shot to secure Atlanta’s 109-108 road victory in Sacramento on Tuesday (all times AEDT).

After a miss by De’Andre Hunter at the other end with 12 seconds left, Fox dribbled up the floor in a final push to earn the win for Sacramento.

The charging Fox muscled past Hunter to get closer to the rim before Daniels came over to double the gun guard, knocked the ball out of his hands and then grabbed the rebound as the buzzer sounded to seal a big Hawks victory achieve.

“Knocked away by Daniels, got the timely steal when it counted most,” said Mark Jones of NBC Sports California.

Fox, who has been in red-hot form in his last two games with 109 points, wasn’t as dominant but still scored 28 points for a Kings team missing DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis.

Daniels, meanwhile, finished with 14 points, two three-pointers, eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks, but did not record a steal for the first time this season.

The Aussie entered the game with 30 steals from his last six games, a remarkable feat considering no other player has more than 28 steals this season.

Both teams’ top scorers came off their benches, with Keon Ellis topping the game with 33 and Hunter dropping 24 for Atlanta, who lost Jalen Johnson (leg) just before tip-off.

Elsewhere, Trae Young dished out a season-high 19 assists and Clint Capela posted a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.

It was Atlanta’s third win in its last four games and improved to 6-8.

GIDDEY FLIRTS WITH TRIPLE, BULLS DOWN PISTONS

Josh Giddey flirted with a triple-double in a rebound performance and Zach LaVine erupted late as the Chicago Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 122-112 at home.

Giddey recorded his third double-double for Chicago, recording 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting with one triple, eight rebounds and 10 assists as a +13 plus/minus – third best of any player on the court – in 29 minutes .

The Aussie also played solid defense against Pistons star Cade Cunningham, who still led Detroit with 23 points and 10 assists.

However, it was Giddey’s teammate, LaVine, who really stole the show. LaVine was scorching in the fourth quarter with six three-pointers for 18 points and carried the Bulls to victory.

LaVine and Coby White finished with 25 points each and Nikola Vucevic led all scorers with 29 to go with 12 rebounds and two blocks.

The win ended a two-game losing streak for Chicago, which improved to 6-9 on the season. Jalen Duren added 15 points with 22 rebounds for the Pistons, who fell to 7-9.

It came after a pair of tough performances for Giddey in Chicago’s big losses to Houston and Cleveland, which saw the Aussie spend extended periods on the bench.

Giddey was brutally honest about his own performance after the Cleveland loss, admitting: “I wouldn’t have played myself if I was Billy. No minutes tonight. I was bad on both sides of the ball.”
