The Philadelphia Eagles had a lot of problems at the end of last season, losing six of their last seven games and looking really bad in all facets of the game.

It had been about eight months since they last played their last game, but they picked up where they left off in the first quarter.

The Eagles’ first possession ended with a bad interception by Jalen Hurts over the middle of the field. He didn’t expect Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney to be in position for the pick, but he was, and the Eagles had a turnover in their own zone. Hurts had finished the previous season with a setback, and that wasn’t the best way to start a new season.

The Eagles’ woes didn’t improve on their second drive. In their first game since center Jason Kelce retired, new center Cam Jurgens’ shotgun snap caught Hurts off guard, the ball bounced off him, and the Packers pounced on the loose ball. Another Packers possession began in Philadelphia territory. It appeared to be a miscommunication between center and quarterback.

The Packers ultimately settled for field goals after both turnovers, despite their great field position, proving that the sloppiness early in the game in Brazil isn’t unique to the Eagles.

This was not how the Eagles wanted to start a new season. It felt too much like the finish of last season.
