Eagles vs. Packers score: Saquon Barkley’s 3-touchdown night propels Philadelphia to victory in Brazil

After a sloppy start marked by penalties and turnovers, the Eagles and Packers put on a fireworks show in Brazil, but it was Saquon Barkley who stole the show in a 34-29 Eagles victory. The former Giants running back signed a three-year, $37.5 million contract in the offseason that paid off after just one game.

Barkley tied an Eagles record with three touchdowns in his debut — a mark set by Terrell Owens in his first game with Philadelphia in 2004. He had 24 carries for 109 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns and had two receptions for 23 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Jordan Love went 17-for-34 for 260 yards and two touchdowns for Green Bay, but was knocked out of the game and had to be helped to the sideline with five seconds left in the game as the Packers tried to win in desperation. Malik Willis came in and threw an incomplete pass and was subsequently sacked by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun to end the game.

Live52 updates

  • Willis sacked in Hail Mary attempt to end Eagles win

Zack Baun scored the sack to give Philadelphia the win.

  • Love goes under for Green Bay

Jordan Love twisted awkwardly to the ground as the Packers tried to get into position for a Hail Mary. He was able to throw the ball back to Josh Jacobs and was helped off the field with five seconds left. Malik Willis came on for the final play of plays as Green Bay snapped the ball at Philadelphia’s 47-yard line.

  • Eagles score a field goal late in the game to take a five-point lead

The Eagles got to the 1-yard line when the drive stalled with the Packers having 27 seconds left

  • Hurts delivers to Smith again for a key first down

Breaking the trend with the clock stopped and the Packers having a timeout and the two-minute warning, Philly opted to throw the ball and get a first down inside the 10-yard line. The Eagles are able to run out most of the remaining clock as Green Bay can only stop the clock once more.

  • Clutch first down on a Hurts to Smith connection

With 2:15 remaining, Green Bay has begun using its timeouts with Philadelphia on the 18-yard line. The Eagles drive has now covered 53 yards on 11 plays and taken 5:42 off the clock

  • Penalties continue to plague Green Bay

Green Bay has been charged with holding twice on this drive, both times resulting in automatic first downs while the Eagles were behind the chains. Green Bay has now been flagged 10 times for 71 yards with just 4:00 remaining on the clock.

  • LeBron James enjoys the show

  • Barkley over 100 meters

Philly leans on their new bell cow late in the game with Saquon Barkley carrying the post to work the clock. He has racked up 103 yards on 19 carries with just under five minutes remaining.

  • Narveson scores from 26 meters and reduces the lead to two

Brayden Narveson made up for the earlier missed field goal to give Green Bay a 31-29 lead. With just eight minutes left in the game, Green Bay will likely see the ball again. Can Philadelphia protect the ball enough to make the game salty, or will Jordan Love and co. get another shot at a win? Either way, Brazilian fans are in for a great game for the NFL’s first visit to South America.

  • Barkley joins the Eagles’ elite company with his three-touchdown game

  • Another big one for Jayden Reed

3rd and 5 and Love finds Reed on a deep crosser for 26 yards, and the Packers are just outside the red zone. Reed is now at 105 yards receiving for the night

  • Josh Jacobs tears another big one up

Jacobs is up to 75 yards on the game after a 32-yard run to get Green Bay moving. It took a chunk of the game to get going, but Green Bay’s offense has been humming along largely since the second quarter.

  • Jaire Alexander makes a great play and intercepts Jalen Hurts in the endzone

Alexander may have kept Green Bay in the game, getting the Packers’ second interception of the night. Philadelphia still leads and has had big nights from Saquon Barkley and AJ Brown, but the three turnovers have stalled the offense at key points in the game.

  • Saquon Barkley carries the Eagles into the fourth quarter

After the missed field goal, Barkley ripped off a 34-yard run to get the ball into Packers territory and improve his big numbers. After three quarters, he has three touchdowns and now 94 yards on the ground on 16 carries. Last season with the Giants, Barkley surpassed 94 rushing yards just once — a 128-yard effort on 36 carries in a loss to the Jets.

  • A doink from Packers’ kicker Brayden Narveson

After being stopped on 3rd and 10, Green Bay’s rookie kicker couldn’t reduce the lead, missing a 43-yard field goal and catching a pitcher in the process.

  • Green Back is back on a new march and has the ball just outside the red zone

Josh Jacobs had his biggest run of the night, a 22-yard carry that put Green Bay within range of a field goal.

  • Saquon Barkley scores hat trick in Eagles debut as Philly regains lead

    🪄🎩

It’s Barkley’s second three-touchdown game of his NFL career. He had two on the ground and one through the air with the Giants in a win over Tampa Bay in 2018.

  • Eagles come with big turnover

Philly scores its first win of the night with an interception by Reed Blankenship, giving the Eagles a shot at the lead deep in Packers territory.

  • One more chance!

The Eagles force a quick stop to get the ball back, and for the first time since the Eagles lost the ball and the Packers couldn’t move it early in the first quarter, the game has slowed down. The Packers still lead 26-24, nearly halfway through the third quarter.
