Early cold wave sweeps through the region

Northeastern California and Western Nevada are bracing for the first freeze warning of the season as temperatures are expected to drop dramatically Thursday evening into early Friday morning. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, a series of cold fronts will move through the region, bringing widespread freezes and temperatures dropping between 14 and 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

The NWS has issued a Freeze Watch for parts of Western Nevada and Northeastern California, urging you to prepare for the unseasonably cold weather. In addition to the freezing temperatures, light snow showers are forecast in mountainous and foothill areas, with snow levels possibly dropping as low as 5,000 feet.

This early-season cold snap marks a shift in weather patterns and serves as a reminder to protect sensitive outdoor plants and pipes and prepare for potentially hazardous driving conditions in areas where snow may accumulate.
