EF-0 tornado confirmed in Rockaway Beach, path not continuous, NWS says

A small tornado touched down in Rockaway Beach Monday evening.

The National Weather Service in Portland confirmed an EF-0 twister caused damage in the coastal community. Photos and videos from the Neah-Kah-Nie School District show windows being blown out and trash containers moving across a parking lot.

NWS Portland says the tornado happened Monday around 9:24 p.m. and had an estimated wind speed of 85 mph.

“This likely formed as a waterspout and then made landfall, although the path was not continuous,” officials said.

The tornado’s maximum width is estimated at 150 years and an estimated path length of 0.25 miles based on damage reports.

One person was slightly injured.
