Elise Stefanik, Donald Trump’s pick for the United Nations, is a sharp critic of the institution

US President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for the position of Washington’s ambassador to the United States United Nations has been one of Israel’s most outspoken defenders since the war in Gaza broke out last year.
Representative from New York Elise Stefanik, 40, is the fourth-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives and a committed Trump loyalist. Her defense of Israel gave her a role in ousting several Ivy League college deans.

She has also used her position to criticize U.N. efforts to curb Israel’s continued military operations in Gaza and parts of the occupied West Bank, even though she has little foreign policy experience.

Stefanik made a statement at the start of the body’s General Assembly in September that “the Biden-Harris administration must address the extreme anti-Semitism and moral depravity of the UN and unequivocally support Israel’s right to defend itself against both brutal terrorists and biased international organizations.”

Earlier this year, Stefanik joined a group of hardline Republicans who voted against a $95.3 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and other U.S. allies — a measure that ultimately passed 311-112 in April after months of deadlock. .

In addition to the holdouts, Stefanik supported a measure that would have allowed separate votes for individual aid packages, signaling support for aid to Israel and Taiwan.
