Ellen DeGeneres has moved to Britain and calls Montecito Estate: ‘Never Coming Back’ to the United States

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi have moved to rural England, put their Montecito estate on the market and plan never to return to the United States. They told friends that their main motivation was the election of Donald Trump, a person close to the former TV host. told TheWrap.

While the incoming Republican administration was the said catalyst, a fresh start couldn’t hurt: DeGeneres has been open about being “kicked out of show business” following reports of toxic workplace behavior during the syndicated “Ellen” show in 2022.

DeGeneres has already moved to the Cotswolds, a rural area in south-central England, the person said, adding that her mansion in Montecito, about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, is listed or will soon be listed . A representative for Riskin Partners, the prestigious real estate firm that employs them, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

DeGeneres reportedly purchased the sprawling Montecito estate in 2019, and she and de Rossi have made it their primary residence; it was not clear what would become of her other properties in Southern California. A former spokeswoman for DeGeneres said she no longer represents the comedian since her comedy special and tour ended.

DeGeneres recently released “Four Your Approval,” a stand-up show she produced for Netflix. In it, she described how she spent her time after “Ellen” — and aside from the comedy special itself, none of it had to do with show business.

“I decided to take up gardening,” DeGeneres said. ‘I have chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what’s going on… Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business… Yeah, the ‘be nice’ girl wasn’t nice. That was the headline.”

She then wondered out loud whether she should have set expectations differently.

“If I had ended my show by saying, ‘Do yourself a favor,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out that I’m nice,” the comedian joked.
