Elton John, Lionel Richie and more remember ‘incredible’ music legend Quincy Jones

The world of music and entertainment pays tribute to the prolific record producer and legendary player in the music industry: Quincy Jones.

Tributes from some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Lionel Richie, Whoopi Goldberg and Elton John, poured in after Jones died on Sunday.

The hitmaker-producer of multi-platinum albums including Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, the best-selling album of all time, died at the age of 91.

Quincy Jones, producer and music industry titan, has died at the age of 91

Elton John

John posted to Instagram on Monday a photo of himself under Jones’ arm, taken at an Oscar viewing party.

“No one had a career as incredible as Quincy Jones. He played with the best and produced the best. What a guy. I loved him,” John wrote.

Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg posted a photo of her and Jones to her Instagram Story, calling him a “friend” and “unique.”

β€œMy heart breaks for his family and his extended family who loved and adored him. My condolences,” she wrote.

Richie also remembered Jones in an Instagram post in which the pair posed together as Richie leaned on Jones’ shoulder.

“Wow, Q – what an amazing ride!! β€οΈπŸ™πŸ½ – always with love,” Richie wrote.

Will Smith

Smith shared his admiration for Jones on social media following the news of his death. Jones director produced Smith’s “Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

“Quincy Jones is the true definition of a mentor, a father and a friend. He pointed out the greatest parts of myself,” Smith wrote.

Smith continued, β€œHe defended me. He fed me. He encouraged me. He inspired me. He checked on me when necessary. He let me use his wings until mine were strong enough to fly.”

Elton John says he has ‘limited vision’ while recovering from ‘serious eye infection’

Domingo wrote a heartfelt tribute to Jones and thanked him for his contributions to music.

β€œI just hope that we all play his music today, from his orchestrations to soundtracks from Off the Wall to Secret Garden to Frank Sinatra et al., and send this genius king packing,” Domingo wrote.

“There would be no American music without this great man, as you know. Let’s thank Mr. Quincy Jones for passing through our lives,” he continued.

Domingo finished describing the meeting with Jones, writing, β€œI could see music in his eyes. He lived. What a life and a legacy.”
