The hit Netflix miniseries “Baby Reindeer” won a ton of trophies at this year’s Emmy Awards, including the evening’s big prize for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

The series also won the award for Best Screenplay for a Miniseries or Anthology Series, as well as two awards for Best Acting: Richard Gadd for Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Anthology Series, and Jessica Gunning for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Anthology Series.

In addition to his role in the drama series, Gadd also wrote the series, based on his own experiences as a comedian trying to make it while also battling his demons.

On his journey to success, Gadd’s character befriends a woman named Martha, played by Gunning, who ultimately isn’t who he expected. Throughout the series, the audience learns more about Gadd’s character’s past and how he got to where he is today.

“This is the stuff of dreams. Ten years ago, I was down and out,” he said in his acceptance speech. “I never, ever thought I would get my life back. I never thought I could recover from what happened to me and get myself back on my feet. And here I am, a little over ten years later, winning one of the biggest writing awards on television.”

He concluded with a message to his fans to never give up and that ‘nothing lasts forever’.

“No matter how bad it gets, it always gets better,” Gadd said. “So if you’re struggling, just keep going and I promise you, everything will be okay.”
