‘Entourage’ star casts New York Knicks in iconic roles

Jerry Ferrara had the New York Knicks go to war on the latest episode of the “Roommates Show.”

Ferrara, a Brooklyn-born actor best known for his role as Salvatore “Turtle” Assante on the television series “Entourage,” was one of the final guests on the web series hosted by Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. A Knicks superfan himself, Ferrara opted to cast his beloved New Yorkers in roles similar to the comedy series, which aired on HBO for eight seasons before a theatrical film sequel was released in 2015.

“Josh, I feel like you’re kind of doing Johnny Drama (stuff),” Ferrara told Hart, referring to the larger-than-life, gregarious character played by Kevin Dillon. Ferrara said he was particularly inspired by the “Reggie Miller thing” during last season’s playoffs, when Hart Miller told fans at Madison Square Garden gave him a derogatory chant while he was announcing the game on TNT.

The choice of Brunson is a bit more obvious, as Ferrara calls him “the Vincent Chase.” Played by Adrian Grenier, Vince was the de facto star of the otherwise ensemble series, which focused on his endeavors as an A-list Hollywood actor. Hart agreed, declaring, “Yes sir, that’s our captain!”

Ferrara needed help from the titular roommates to figure out who Eric “E” Murphy would be, Vince’s friend and responsible manager played by Kevin Connolly. For the role, Ferrara is looking for a “sensible” candidate who “may not make the flashiest moves ever” but proves trustworthy nonetheless. Brunson and Hart quickly dispatch OG Anunoby, who often handles the dirty work around the metropolis that doesn’t often show up in the box score.

To top it all off, Ferrara is once again baffled when it comes to who Vince’s excitable, foul-mouthed but loyal agent Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven, might be. Ferrara doesn’t want to suggest head coach Tom Thibodeau, but Hart more or less forces him to.

“The way Thibs curses at the referees could be the main prize,” Hart admits.

Ferrara, who also starred in the Starz drama series “Power,” will join Brunson and Hart in the podcast world, as he’s set to debut “Throwbacks” alongside Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart. There’s no doubt Turtle would appreciate what the Knicks would do in modern times, as the character would regularly strut his stuff in New York City on the series.

“Entourage” is available to stream on Max.
