Becker’s goal in the 33rd minute was enough to secure Real Sociedad the victory. He beat the offside trap and raced through to Luka Sucic’s header before scoring a neat finish just inside the post.

In Italy, Roma have fired Ivan Juric after just twelve games in charge. The Croatian became the club’s second head coach – after Daniele De Rossi – to be sacked this season following the side’s 3-2 home defeat against Bologna on Sunday, their fourth defeat in the last five league games, leaving them twelfth in Serie A.

“We would like to thank Ivan Juric for his hard work in recent weeks,” Roma said in a statement. “He handled a difficult environment with the utmost professionalism, and for that we are grateful. The search for a new head coach has already begun and an announcement will be made in the coming days.”

Roma appointed Juric as their third coach in eight months in September, following the dismissal of club legend De Rossi. Juric, previously at Torino, Verona and Genoa, started with home wins against Udinese and Venezia in the league, either side of a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League. However, his good run ended there and Roma won only once in their next six league games.

Ligue 1 side Nantes have reacted with “deep outrage” after Wales international Sorba Thomas was subjected to racist abuse on social media. Thomas, on loan from Huddersfield, came on as a late substitute in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Lens before being replaced himself.

A club statement released on Sunday read: “FC Nantes expresses its deep outrage following the racist insults to which Sorba Thomas was subjected after the match against RC Lens on social networks. The club wishes to give its player its full and unwavering support.”

Thomas has scored one goal in 11 games this season for Nantes, which started its season with seven points from its first three games but won three from its last eight.
