EX Inter Milan & Switzerland Winger warns young boys about star goalkeeper: “Not easy to score against summer”

Former Inter Milan winger Xherdan Shaqiri has warned Young Boys over Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

During his recent interview with Blue Sport, as reported by FCInterNewsthe new striker from Basel praised the goalkeeping skills of his ex-international teammate.

Yann Sommer and Shaqiri shared the Swiss national team dressing room for more than a decade.

Both players retired from international football after the Nati failed to reach the quarter-finals of EURO 2024.

As for Shaqiri, he returned to European football this summer to join his boyhood club Basel.

After a two-year stint with Major League Soccer franchise Chicago Fire, the 33-year-old is indeed back home.

Basel’s fiercest domestic rivals will exchange tackles with Inter in tonight’s UEFA Champions League match in Bern.

Shaqiri knows both sides.

While he regularly faced Young Boys during his playing career in Switzerland, he briefly wore the Nerazzurri shirt.

He moved from Bayern Munich to Giuseppe Meazza in January 2015.

Inter paid the record Bundesliga champions €15 million to land Shaqiri.

However, failing to find his place in Serie A, the small forward left the club to join Stoke City.

If anyone understands Sommer’s goalkeeping qualities, it is Shaqiri.

They were colleagues on the national team for more than ten years.

It’s fair to say that they have made the Nati one of the most exciting teams in Europe.

Italy even felt their wrath at EURO 2024, when Switzerland left 2-0 victors after their last-16 draw.

Shaqiri praised his former teammate ahead of Wednesday’s match.

“It will be a tough match for the Swiss, and it certainly won’t be easy to score against Yann,” he said.

Shaqiri’s statement was not far from the truth.

Sommer has not yet conceded a goal in the Champions League this season.
