Extreme heat warnings go into effect this week for the Valley

PHOENIX — Monsoon moisture is moving away as high pressure returns to Arizona this week.

Due to the high pressure above our heads, temperatures will rise to above 43 degrees Celsius for several days by midweek.

A Warning of excessive heat is issued for Wednesday through Friday for the Valley and western parts of the state.

This means that Wednesday through Friday ABC15 Weather Action Days because the afternoon temperatures are between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius every day.

Now is the time to prepare yourself and your family for this extreme heat. Limit your time outside between 11am and 6pm, seek air conditioning, wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.

We’ve had 54 days this year with 110 degrees or warmer. The all-time record is 55 days set last year and there’s a good chance we’ll break that record mid to late next week.

There is also no end in sight for this record-breaking streak of triple-digit days. As of Monday, we have had 99 consecutive triple-digit days. The previous record was 76 consecutive triple-digit days, set in August 1993.

Meteorological summer ended on August 31st and it will go down in history as the hottest summer ever recorded in Phoenix! The average temperature for June, July and August was 98.9 degrees, breaking last summer’s record of 97.0 degrees.
