FACTS AND STATISTICS: Max Verstappen can win the drivers’ title in Las Vegas if he and Lando Norris finish in their qualifying positions

George Russell took a sensational pole position in Las Vegas, with the Mercedes seemingly coming to life in the cooler evening conditions. But there were plenty of arguments behind it, with Ferrari managing to outpace their McLaren rivals, while Max Verstappen starts ahead of Lando Norris. Here are the best facts and stats of the Vegas Strip…

  • Russell has three poles this year: Canada, Great Britain and now Las Vegas. This was his fourth career pole position.

  • Carlos Sainz qualified second here for the second year in a row, although he did have a 10-place grid drop last year. He missed pole twice here by a total of 0.142 seconds.

  • This is the Spaniard’s second front row start in the last three races after winning from pole in Mexico City.

  • Pierre Gasly finished third, after Esteban Ocon started fourth in Sao Paulo. Gasly has only had one top-three start in his career, in Qatar in 2021, but he started fourth here last year.

  • Charles Leclerc finished fourth, but his last two race wins came from P4 on the grid in both Monza and Austin.
