Fairleigh Dickinson at Creighton odds, picks and predictions

The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (1-1) and Creighton Bluejays (1-0) tangle Sunday in Omaha. Tip-off at CHI Health Center is at 5:00 PM ET (FS1). Let’s round out FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds Fairleigh Dickinson vs. Creighton chancesand make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Fairleigh Dickinson opened the season on Monday, being defeated 113-72 by the Miami Hurricanes. The Knights then bounced back – with an almost inverse reflection of that score (112-72) – in an uncontested home win on Thursday against DIII Purchase. FDU went 15-17 last season.

No. No. 14 Creighton earned a 99-86 victory over Texas-Rio Grande Valley in Wednesday’s opener on home hardwood. The Bluejays failed to cover a -29 in a match that made a flyby at a total of 155.5. Senior C Ryan Kalkbrenne scored 49 points as CU shot 60% from the floor and allowed a 40% success rate on 3s in a game that twice had only a 5-point difference in the final 5 minutes.

Against the spread

This is essentially a top 20 team taking on a bottom 20 team. KenPom ranks Fairleigh Dickinson at number 354 out of 364. Creighton is at number 17.

This spread is a major hurdle, but FDU’s style of play – up-tempo with lots of possession – makes it worth watching from a Creighton perspective. The Knights don’t swim in these waters often, but last season they did play Seton Hall and Illinois in the non-conference portion of the season. The FDU was reversed by more than 30 points in both cases, and neither required any sort of late fade to reach that point.

Still, FDU is at best a high-frequency distance offense that does well getting to the limit. And it chases turnovers on defense.

So the Knights clearly weren’t the best version of themselves during Monday’s setback in Miami, a 41-point loss on a 27.5 score.

A year ago, Creighton played four of its first 10 games in this bottom third. CU won those 4 games by an average of 36.8 points per game.

The Bluejays play excellent defense and are solid at avoiding turnovers.

CREIGHTON -34.5 (-104) is worth playing a partial unit.

Top/Bottom

The expected pace says these 2 can hit the 160s. In many CU games, these types of games end up being a coin toss because the Bluejays are a high-frequency 3-point shooting team.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if there was a double-sided spacing and turnover move. Again, perhaps with a unit side facing downwards, BACK OVER 163.5 (-110).
