Fans are criticizing ABC for letting The Bachelorette watch her proposal to her ex-fiancé on live TV after he broke up with her and ‘ghosted’ her

Fans are furious that “The Bachelorette” star Jenn Tran was forced to watch her proposal to Devin Strader live on TV Tuesday night, nearly a month after he ended their engagement in a 15-minute phone call and reportedly ignored her.

In a move never before seen in “The Bachelorette” franchise, Tran made history by becoming the first lead actress to propose to her season’s winner, rather than her final choice proposing to her. Their engagement, however, didn’t last long.

In the live finale, host Jesse Palmer brought Tran onstage to tearfully reveal that they had broken up over a month ago. Before the producers delivered their proposal on the radio, Tran had to explain what had gone wrong.

“He basically said he didn’t love me anymore and he didn’t feel the same way anymore and something wasn’t right since he proposed to me. He regretted getting engaged,” Tran told the audience through sobs.

Tran accused Strader of ignoring her text messages and “ghosting” her over the past month.

“He didn’t want to go to couples therapy,” the reality star said. “He didn’t want to fight for the relationship anymore. He was just done with it.”

Palmer invited the 28-year-old freight company owner onstage, accusing him of “clubbing” and following new girls on Instagram, like former “Bachelor” contestant Maria Georgas. Maria revealed on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in April that she turned down the lead role on “The Bachelorette” before it was offered to Tran.

“It completely invalidated our whole relationship,” the first Asian-American “Bachelorette” told Strader.

“I disappointed you and I can’t say anything about it other than that everything I felt was real,” he replied.

Strader said he had “a lot of doubts” about their relationship when he left the show and that he “wasn’t able to meet” Tran’s needs — but didn’t provide details about what exactly her expectations were.

Palmer asked Tran, 26, if she was ready to see the proposal and she replied, “Do I have a choice?”

As the proposal aired, cameras showed a livestream of Tran at the bottom of the screen, sitting next to Strader and crying as she proposed to her ex.

Social media users were furious with the show’s producers for making her relive the emotional moment live on television.

“Why is the show making Jenn watch this proposal while she’s sitting next to Devin? This seems really cruel,” one social media user wrote on X.

“She was already humiliated by Devin and then the show humiliated her even more by showing her the proposal,” someone else wrote on Reddit.

As Jenn sobbed during the live taping, the show continued to air the clip of the proposal in which she said, “I can’t let you ask me to marry you. I’ve decided to choose myself in this journey and the best version of myself is when I’m with you,” before pulling out a ring and placing it on Strader’s finger.

A few seconds later he asked her to marry him too.

The camera footage zooms in on Tran, still crying and sniffling, and the former couple sitting together in silence.

Palmer urged her to “feel powerful” from that point on, telling her “even though you may not have found the love and the great love you were looking for, you have also shown us all what a strong and powerful woman is.”
