Fans are excited for the Cook Out Southern 500 race in Darlington

It’s Labor Day weekend and that means if you’re in Darlington you’ll see race fans from all over the world preparing for the Cook Out Southern 500.

Fans enjoyed the events all weekend and prepared to see their favorite drivers.

Sunday’s race is the season finale of the Cup series and the drivers will battle it out at the circuit for the final three spots in the 16-team play-off field.

Die-hard fans Ramond and Paulie Brown came from Santee, South Carolina and plan to attend one more race when they leave Darlington.

“We’re really enjoying it and from here we’re going to Chavin, South Carolina until Monday, Labor Day,” Brown said.

It also marks the first time the course has hosted the season finale since the play-offs began in 2004.

Race fan David Shaw said he has been a racing fan since he was five and went to the race on Sunday with friends.

Shaw added that he is ready to hear the sound of loud engines and tires on the tracks.

Anyone who knows anything about racing knows what the Southern 500 is. This is the Southern 500 area. This is where racing started. NASCAR started here a long time ago. So it’s a big deal, Shaw said.

Doors for the event open at 2:30pm and the race starts at 6pm.
