Fans were reminded to join the team in white wearing ‘Winter Warning’ on Sunday

Whiteout conditions arrive at Lambeau Field this Sunday, with Green Bay Packers players and fans prepared for it unite and wear white for the first-ever “Winter Warning” game presented by American Family Insurance.

Fans and gamegoers are reminded to wear white to help create a snowstorm-like effect in the stadium. The atmosphere in the stands will complement the team’s new look on the pitch, including the introduction of the players’ long-awaited white alternate helmets. The brand new helmets feature a plain white face mask and white shell, with the traditional dark green Packers G logo on the sides and dark green stripes in the center. The white helmets are paired with the fan-favorite combination of the team’s white away jerseys, white pants and plain white socks.

To encourage fans to participate and turn Lambeau Field into a whiteout, the Packers Pro Shop has launched a brand new line of related merchandise. The Winter Warning Collection is available now both in-store and online at packersproshop.com. The collection includes white shirts, hats, caps and outerwear, along with white drinkware, novelty items and wall art, as well as replica versions of the helmets the players will wear.

Fans attending the game will also receive a white Winter Warning scarf from American Family Insurance upon entering the stadium to enhance the blizzard-like atmosphere. For more information about Winter Warning, visit packers.com/winterwarning.

White uniforms and helmets have been worn several times in Packers history. The team first experimented with white as an alternative uniform color in 1938 and also at various times in the 1940s and 1950s, before finally introducing it as the standard away shirt color in the 1960s. White helmets were also seen in the 1950s, debuting in 1956 during the home opener against Detroit, when the Packers wore dark green jerseys with white trim, green socks, white pants and white helmets with a single green stripe down the middle. The same uniforms and white helmets returned for the entire 1958 season – although it was not a successful season for the Packers, nine players from that team’s starting lineup would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
