Fantastic Beasts star thinks we’ve seen the last of Newt Scamander on the big screen

Fans of the Fantastic animals film franchise hasn’t exactly had it easy in recent years. It started off so positively with the release of Fantastic creatures and where to find them in 2016, when people enjoyed the spin-off of the Harry Potter universe. There were plans for the film to be the first of five in a series that not only told the story of Newt Scamander, but also gave a lot of backstory to the characters of Grindelwald and Voldemort. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse after that. After two more divisive films, it appears that the Fantastic animals series is done for good.

Neither Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald nor Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets could achieve the critical or commercial success of the first film in the series. While fans were still hoping that the series would one day find a way to continue, star Eddie Redmayne has all but closed the door on that scenario.

Speaking to ComicBook about his new Peacock thriller series: Day of the JackalRedmayne said we’ve probably seen the last of New Scamander on the big screen.

“I think they probably did (seen the last of Newt),” Redmayne told us. “That was a very candid answer, but yes. And that’s as far as I know. I mean, you could talk to the people at Warner Bros. and JK Rowling need to talk, but as far as I know that’s all. I think he might come back in a glimpse of the Universal World in Florida that they’re opening, where you can get a glimpse of what he was up to in Paris.”

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to fans of the Harry Potter franchise, given the dwindling returns and interest in the last few films. Fantastic animals movies. Dumbledore’s Secrets earned less than half of the original’s total box office Fantastic animals film six years earlier, although it received significantly better reviews from critics and fans than The Crimes of Grindelwald.

For a while it seemed as if the Fantastic animals saga could be the on-screen future for the Harry Potter franchise, at least in the short term. However, now that that has failed, Warner Bros. made the baffling decision to completely reboot Harry Potter as a television series, reprising all the roles from the films and essentially telling the same story we’ve already seen and read.

Although he doesn’t return to the world of Harry Potter as Newt Scamander, Eddie Redmayne can be seen in the lead role Day of the Jackalwhich premieres on Peacock on November 14th.
