FC Barcelona’s Raphinha Roasts Officials Amid Lewandowski Goal Scandal

FC Barcelona star Raphinha took to social media to make fun of Spanish football officials amid a controversy that saw Robert Lewandowski disallowed a first-half goal during an eventual 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in La Liga on Sunday.

The VAR system appeared to have got the decision wrong after mistaking a La Real defender’s foot for Lewandowski’s and calling the Pole offside when he was on the ball himself in the 13th minute.

After the match, head coach Hansi Flick made no excuses. “We could have played better, just like in the first minutes, but we couldn’t keep the momentum and didn’t create enough chances,” he said.

“We had a good connection, with possession, but then we had a hard time and they scored. We didn’t make the right decisions in the final third.”

“We started well and scored, but it was wrongly ruled out. I told the referee that it was a bad decision, that it was not Lewandowski’s foot. But we have to accept it,” the German added.

Some of his players were clearer about the error, with goalkeeper Inaki Pena saying: “If there is a possible error in marking Lewandowski’s foot, such a clear and serious error, let the league act because this is where VAR is for.” .”

“This is what the rules they use are for and if a mistake has been made, let it be proven, investigated and acted upon,” Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s replacement further demanded.

“La Liga will have to judge whether it is Lewandowski’s foot or not,” said midfielder Marc Casado.

“It would be serious if they disallowed a goal that was actually legal. I didn’t see it live, but I was told about it. Sooner or later we will know if it was offside.”

The Spanish Technical Referees’ Commission (CTA) has already come out and confirmed its belief that the disallowed goal was not misinterpreted.

It says it reviewed the image with “ten additional cameras in addition to those of the audiovisual production, to verify that the system was correct”, while the technology applied “anticipates these millimeter deviations and toe-of-the-boot tracking”, as Mundo Deportivo relay.

Instead of coming out and making his own statements, Raphinha used Instagram to roast Spanish football officials over the commotion.

The Brazilian tagged Lewandowski and shared a few photos of the incident via his Stories, as well as a pair of legs in jeans with a hugely oversized pair of what appear to be Brogue shoes.

Since the CTA has already made its position clear, it seems that Barca and its players can only joke.

Still six points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga with their international breakthrough just around the corner, the Blaugrana must dust themselves off and look ahead to another away trip to Celta Vigo on November 23 to try and get back to winning ways. .
