CINCINNATI (WKRC) – FC Cincinnati midfielder Marco Angulo has died at the age of 22.

According to The New York TimesAngulo died in hospital five weeks after being seriously injured in an accident on October 7 in the Ecuadorian capital Quito.

At the time of the crash, he was on loan to Ecuadorian club LDU Quito for the season.

“It is with deep pain and sadness that we bring you the news of the death of our player, Marco Angulo,” read an LDU Quito statement on Tuesday.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. His departure is an irreparable loss that will leave an indelible mark on our hearts. May he rest in peace,” the statement continued.

FC Cincinnati acquired Angulo from Independiente de Valle on December 21, 2022 and signed a contract to play with the team through the 2025 season.
