Finn Wolfhard remembers being mistaken for Timothee Chalamet in New York City, very funny

Finn Wolfhard could have easily won $50 if he entered Timothée Chalamet similar competition.

In the wake of the viral lookalike contest that took over Washington Square Park last weekend, the Stranger things star shares his experience of being mistaken for the Dune actor.

“One time when I was in SoHo and got in an Uber with some friends, someone else had called an Uber to the same location and it was the same car, so we thought this was our Uber,” Wolfhard, 21, said. We weekly exclusively while promoting its Great Ghost Search campaign with Ring. “So when we got in, another group got in the car and we said, ‘Oh, sorry, that’s your Uber.’ And then one of them looked at me, and he recognized me, and his eyes widened.”

Being recognized – especially in New York City – comes naturally to Wolfhard, whose appearances in films and TV shows are enjoyable Stranger things, It And Ghostbusters have generated fans across the country. But this was no ordinary fan meeting.

“I thought, ‘Oh no, he’ll recognize me from the show,’” the actor continued. ‘And he said, ‘Oh, my God. You are Timothée Chalamet!’ And then I just started laughing with my friends, like, ‘Oh my God, that’s crazy that that just happened.’ It was very funny. I was relieved. I thought, ‘Yes, that’s me!’ It was really funny.”

Both actors certainly share certain characteristics: they are both just under 6 feet tall, have long, dark, curly hair and a fair complexion. However, Chalamet, 28, is from New York City – perhaps part of the reason why Wolfhard was recognized there – while the Stranger things actor is younger and from Canada.

Wolfhard is not the only one mistaken for Chalamet on the street. On October 27, thousands of fans and Chalamet doppelgängers gathered in the Big Apple for a lookalike contest – and Chalamet himself showed up.

“Honestly, I’m a big fan of Timothée Chalamet,” Anthony Posays the YouTuber who organized the event Us. “I think the way he moves through the space is very clever, because I’m an influencer myself.”

After Chalamet showed up, the crowd became unbearable and Po, 23, was fined $500 for not having a permit. He wasn’t worried, though: Po simply led the crowd to an alternate location at Mercer Playground to crown the winner, a Wonka-outfit-clad 21-year-old named Miles Mitchell.

Lots of Twin-othées Us Wolfhard spoke at the event, noting that they are often stopped on the street due to their resemblance to both actors.
