Police have released a photo of a teenager suspected of shooting dead four people in the US state of Georgia.

Two teachers and two students were killed in the attack on the school. Apalachee High School in Winder, northeast of Atlanta, on Wednesday.

Colt Gray, 14, surrendered when he was “approached by school resource officers inside the school,” Barrow County police said.

No body camera footage or audio is being released to “protect the integrity of the investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.

Nine others were injured in the shooting.

Gray has been charged as an adult in the deaths of students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53, said Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

He will appear in court for the first time on Friday.

Detectives are trying to determine how the teenager obtained a semi-automatic rifle.

Gray and his father were questioned last year in connection with online threats about a school shooting via the gaming platform Discord. Investigators said they denied making the comments.

The case was closed after neither person, Gray, could be linked to the Discord account, and no probable cause was found to seize the family’s guns, according to police reports released by the sheriff’s office.

“This case was investigated and the boy was 13 years old at the time, so it wasn’t enough to provide evidence,” said Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum.

“If we get a court order or charge someone, we will seize the firearms for safekeeping.”

Gray’s father told authorities he kept hunting rifles in a safe in his home and that his son did not have access to them.
