First warnings for Sunday and Monday for heavy rain and a chance of severe storms

We are monitoring a severe weather risk across North Texas on Sunday and Monday, prompting the CBS Texas Weather Team to issue First Alert Days for Sunday and Monday.

The main things we are monitoring are hail, damaging winds and a possible tornado.

In fact, strong thunderstorms have dumped heavy rains over the northwestern provinces over the past 24 hours, prompting Flood Watches. These watches are in effect until Monday morning due to more heavy rainfall which has led to flooding risks. An additional 1-2 inches is possible south of I-20 and more than 3.5 inches north.

In addition to the flood threat, heavy thunderstorms are also possible on Sunday afternoon and evening. The most severe storms are likely to occur in the northwestern provinces, where the Storm Prediction Center highlights a slight risk.

Another strong line of thunderstorms is forecast to ignite in the early afternoon and continue into the evening. Hail and damaging winds are the biggest concerns, but an isolated tornado is also possible. Conditions will be clear tonight with some persistent showers.

Monday’s severe threat increases with an increased risk of numerous severe storms for northeastern counties and a small risk in North Texas as a whole.

A front will collide with an abundance of instability and moisture, leading to a dynamic threat of tornadoes, hail and damaging winds on Monday. In terms of timing, the strongest storms are expected for western counties in the morning, the I-35 corridor and DFW in the afternoon, and eastern counties in the late afternoon and evening.

The good news is that the front will bring much-needed rainfall, cooler temperatures, and a sunny afternoon just in time for Election Day!

The calm conditions won’t last long, with a new front moving early Thursday morning, which will bring an increase in precipitation and active pattern. Stay up to date with the latest weather updates!
