First Weather Forecast Alert: Winter Weather Advisory in effect for most of the metro

Forecast First warning: Rain will change to snow later this morning

Today in the Twin Cities, rain will mix with snow around 10 a.m. and heavy snow will fall between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. However, areas east of downtown St. Paul will see more of a mix of rain and snow in the afternoon. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Twin Cities today from 10am to 4pm for 2-4″ of falling snow, along with thundersnow between 10am and 4pm. However, the winter weather advisory does not apply to Dakota County or Pierce and Saint Croix Counties in Wisconsin, as more rain than snow will fall.

Expect rain in the Twin Cities with temperatures in the low 40s now until 10 a.m., then snow will mix with rain and become mainly snow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with thundersnow also possible. Before 6 p.m. the snow will decrease and it will drizzle. Temperatures this afternoon will be in the mid to upper 30s with a northwesterly wind of 10 to 20 mph.

Improving the weather tonight for Halloween with clear skies, lighter winds, patchy fog and Trick or Treat temperatures in the mid 30s dropping to near 30 degrees Friday morning.

Much warmer Friday into the weekend with highs in the upper 40s, reaching upper 50s Friday, Saturday and Sunday and then low temperatures in the 60s on Monday. Showers and thunderstorms will hit the area from Sunday to Monday. JONATHAN YUHAS
