Flyers, Romanov, Reilly, Hayes, Thompson

As previously stated, the Philadelphia Flyers will be a bit thin on the ground tonight. The organization announced this Alexey Kolosov will not dress tonight due to a lower body injury and Ivan Fedotov will make his fourth start of the season.

Of Samuel Ersson still on the shelf with a lower-body injury, the Flyers needed to find a backup netminder for their game tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The role will be filled by Kyle Konin with whom the team has signed an amateur tryout agreement for tonight’s game.

Konin hasn’t played competitively in a while and there’s no expectation he’ll play again tonight. He last played for the Grand Valley State Lakers in 2019-2020, appearing in five games across the university’s DII and DIII club teams. Konin also served as an emergency backup netminder for the Lightning and the St. Louis Blues, although he did not play.

Other Metro notes:

  • The New York Islanders will still be light on the blue line, with Newsday’s Andrew Gross reporting defenders Alexander Romanov And Mike Reilly will not appear in the lineup again tonight. Both blueliners have not played since the Nov. 1 game against the Buffalo Sabers as they are both nursing injuries. Tonight is the third game without the pair and the Islanders have surrendered a total of eight games in the two games without Romanov and Reilly.
  • Pittsburgh Penguins play-by-play voice Josh Getzoff reports Kevin Hayes is considered daily for an upper body injury. This confirms that Hayes will not be in the lineup tonight when the Penguins take on the Carolina Hurricanes and should make him questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Washington Capitals. Hayes’ absence won’t dramatically impact the Penguins’ lineup, as he’s only averaging 9:27 of ice time in his first year with Pittsburgh.
  • We’re just a few weeks away from the full rosters being announced for the 4 Nations Face-Off and one of the bigger talking points has surrounded Team Canada’s goaltenders. Kevin Weekes of ESPN previously reported that the Capitals netminder Logan Thompson has put himself on Team Canada’s radar with his solid start to the season. Thompson has not suffered a loss in six starts this season and has a .903 save percentage. Should he find a spot on Team Canada’s roster, this will be Thompson’s first international appearance since the 2022 IIHF World Championships.
