Former Browns coach and president are closing in on the Hall of Fame

CANTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Cleveland Browns head coach Marty Schottenheimer was one of 12 individuals in the coaching category who moved one step closer to selection into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Schottenheimer is joined by former Browns team president Mike Holmgren, who also moved one step closer to the election.

Schottenheimer was head coach of the Browns from 1984 to 1988. He also served as head coach of the Chiefs (1989-1998), Redskins (2001) and the Chargers (2002-2006). In 21 seasons as an NFL head coach, he compiled a record of 205-139-1 in 21 seasons.

Holmgren was hired as Browns team president in 2009 before leaving the organization after the 2012 season. He also served as head coach of the Packers and Seahawks. He posted an overall record of 174-122. That includes a win in Super Bowl XXXI with the Packers and an NFC crown in Seattle.

The other ten people who made the cut are: Bill Arnsparger, Tom Coughlin, Jeff Fisher, Alex Gibbs, Chuck Knox, Richie Petitbon, Dan Reeves, George Seifert, Mike Shanahan and Clark Shaughnessy.

Through a series of reduction votes over several weeks, the Blue-Ribbon Committee will select one finalist for the Class of 2025.
