Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard endorses Trump in 2024 presidential race

Tulsi Gabbard, a former Hawaiian congresswoman and now a Democrat and now an independent, is endorsing former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. She is running against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Gabbard served as the Democratic representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021, but announced her departure from the party in 2022 after criticizing it as an “elitist cabal of warmongers.”

The former Democrat, who ran in the 2019 Democratic primary for president against Harris, was recently recruited by Trump to help prepare for the debate ahead of his Sept. 10 showdown with the vice president at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia.

The then-presidential candidate slammed the vice president during a Democratic primary debate for allegedly locking up hundreds of California residents for marijuana violations, after which she herself had openly spoken about smoking the drug.

“She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when asked if she had ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard said of Harris during the debate.

Gabbard has been an outspoken critic of the Democratic Party since switching parties ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, speaking at conservative events including the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and the Faith and Freedom Coalition Road to Majority Conference.

The show of support came after former Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspended his candidacy for the independent presidency in 2024 and endorsed Trump.

Kennedy, in his announcement of his withdrawal, alleged that the Democratic Party was “continually waging legal warfare against both President Trump and me” and “running a sham primary.” RFK Jr. said he would campaign with Trump until the election.
